The League of Women Voters of Northwest Westchester is excited to invite you to a special community event focused on educating the public about the New York Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which will be on the ballot as Proposal 1 in November.
**Event Details:**
Discussion on the NY Equal Rights Amendment & Screening of the documentary "She's Beautiful When She's Angry"
Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 2:00 PM
Ossining Public Library, 53 Croton Avenue, Ossining NY
This educational event offers the community an opportunity to learn more about the NY Equal Rights Amendment (Prop 1), its significance, and its potential impact. We’ll begin with a screening of "She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry," a powerful documentary that explores the women’s rights movement of the 1960s and 1970s, providing historical context for our discussion.
Following the film, a panel of speakers will discuss the importance of the New York Equal Rights Amendment, Prop 1, which will appear on the November 5th ballot. This proposed amendment to the New York State Constitution would expand existing protections against discrimination based on race and religion to explicitly include ethnicity, age, disability, gender—including pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes—sexual orientation, and gender identity. Prop 1 does not change any existing laws or regulations; it cements our fundamental rights and reproductive freedoms in the State Constitution so they are permanently protected. Prop 1 also closes loopholes in the State Constitution to ensure that no New Yorker can be discriminated against by the government regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, pregnancy status, disability status or whether someone is LGBTQ+.
The event is free and open to the public, and we encourage anyone interested in learning more about this topic to attend.
